A “hinge unit” with a Silver Spring. A useful spare part to have with you on the slopes just in case you have a cable failure. The Bare unit can be swapped for the Failed unit in the same way that when you have a puncture on a car, you change the wheel rather than changing the tyre.

    Replacement spring unit

    Wish I had a spare one of these in Canada when the wire rope snapped, leaving me without Ski Mojos for the rest of the trip. Maybe the one that didn't break is due to go, so maybe I should have bought two. I've used them for 6 years, so eventually something had to give, Luckily, not my knees.
